Memorial Scholarship Fund Honoring Carrie Schmoyer

The Spring Grove Area Scholarship Fund is proud to announce the creation of the Carrie Schmoyer Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of the life and legacy of Carrie Schmoyer, a beloved counselor, mentor, and friend to so many. Carrie Schmoyer dedicated her career to inspiring students and fostering a positive and supportive place for students to thrive. She could make anyone laugh and make everyone feel loved. Her unwavering commitment to her students and her compassionate spirit left an indelible mark on the Spring Grove community. Her influence extended far beyond the walls of the school, supporting the lives of countless students, colleagues, and families. In recognition of her incredible contributions, the Carrie Schmoyer Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a Spring Grove Area School District senior who embodies the qualities Carrie cherished: a passion for people, a heart for service, and a commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.

The scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance to a student pursuing a degree in counseling, social work, psychology or related field.


All funds raised will go directly toward supporting this scholarship and honoring Carrie’s memory. Carrie’s legacy will continue to inspire and guide future generations of students. Detective Sergeant Cody Becker Memorial Scholarship

Detective Sergeant Cody Becker Memorial Scholarship
Sponsored by the Spring Grove Wrestling Club
Through contributions of family, friends, local businesses, and community members, the Spring Grove Wrestling Club is sponsoring a memorial scholarship to honor the legacy of Detective Sergeant Cody Becker. 
 

A 2004 graduate of Spring Grove Area School District, Det. Sgt. Becker was killed in the line of duty while serving the Spring Grove community as part of the Northern York County Regional Police Department.

Esther Hannah Shearer Early Childhood Educational Scholarship

Esther Hannah Shearer Early Childhood Educational Scholarship
Hannah graduated from Spring Grove Area Senior High School and then later earned her teaching certificate from York College and Shippensburg University. Hannah taught 1st Grade for Spring Grove Area School district for 38 years. Professionally she was a member of YCPSR, PSEA, and NEA. As a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spring Grove she enjoyed playing in the Bell Choir and being part of the Altar Guild. Hannah was also a member of the Spring Grove Alumni Chorus.

Laken Bankert Ag Scholarship

Laken Mae Bankert, 27, of Dallastown, PA, passed away unexpectedly due to a heart condition on February 3, 2026, and went to plant vegetables in heaven.

She graduated from Spring Grove Area High School in 2016 and from Penn State in 2020 with a degree in Agribusiness Management. She was the Northeast Product Development Specialist for HM. Clause and enjoyed all her time in the fields planting, harvesting, evaluating, and learning.

She was a 4-H member for 10 years, showing market lambs, pigs, and traveling with the Sr. Exchange club. In high school, she played volleyball and softball and continued playing volleyball at Penn State Berks. At University Park, she was a DTS Little Sister and was involved with the Block and Bridle Club. She was active at Spry Church and especially enjoyed her Bible Study group., In a quest to visit all 50 states, she enjoyed traveling, and especially looked forward to her yearly sister trips with Morgan.

In honor of Laken’s passion for agriculture, the Laken Bankert Ag Scholarship will be awarded annually to a Spring Grove Area School District senior planning to pursue a career in any agricultural related field.
